A HUGE commercial building fire broke out last night requiring firefighters and emergency services from all across the county to tackle the blaze.
A total of eight fire engines arrived on the scene at the Kidderminster Footwear building at Irwell Mill on Bacup Road, Rossendale at around 11.40pm on Saturday August 28 to find a fire well underway at a commercial premises.
The crews had come from Bacup, Rawtenstall, Burnley, Hyndburn, Blackburn, Blackpool, Bispham, and South Shore stations and were also supplied with two pumps from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters used breaking-in gear, four breathing apparatus, two handheld jets, and two aerial ladder platforms to begin to tackle the blaze, while Bacup Road was closed.
By 1.30am crews were still at the scene with road closures still in place and by 2.15am multi-agency meetings were taking place to coordinate the response.
Firefighters confirmed that some of the crews had begun to leave the scene at 5am, however they have not yet confirmed at what point the blaze was brought under control.
As of 9.30am this morning police confirmed that road closures are still in place.
