BLACKBURN with Darwen and Lancashire County Councils have intensified their efforts to get 16 and 17-year-olds to get their coronavirus jabs.

This group has recently been sent NHS letters urging them to take up their entitlement to the jab.

Blackburn with Darwen Council's health and well being boss Cllr Damian Talbot said: "As part of national guidance, 16 and 17-year-olds are now being encouraged to come forward and have their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

"The young adults of Blackburn with Darwen are advised to play their part in helping us return to normal life by getting their Covid vaccination.

"This is particularly important as the end of the summer holidays approaches and we see the return of education and apprenticeships."

Cllr Jayne Rear, the county council's education boss, said: "Everyone in Lancashire wants to see life return to normal.

"By coming forward for vaccination, not only are you protecting yourself, but you will be playing a massive role in strengthening the wall of defence we are building to protect our communities from Covid-19.

"Many of you have waited patiently to be allowed to have your vaccine. Now is your chance – please accept the invitation and get vaccinated without delay."
