In a world of new build homes with modern designs, it can be difficult to find a period property which oozes character.

These properties are characterized by historic beams and decorative cornicing, to inglenook fireplaces and sash windows

However, if you are looking for a home with a little more history then this data suggests that this East Lancashire borough is the place to house-hunt.

Research by property experts, Zoopla, has highlighted the UKareas with the highest percentage of period properties.

They have looked at both the number of properties for sale with period features, as well as the number of properties that are listed as either Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian or Tudor.

While London topped the charts as home to 19 per cent of properties, the North West still held its own with nine per cent of all properties for sale classed as ‘period’.

However, one East Lancashire region stood out when it came to the highest percentage of period properties North West – and that was Rossendale.

In Rossendale, 13 per cent of the properties for sale are classed as ‘period’.

One stunning period property for sale in Rossendale is this Woodlea Bank property.

It’s on the market for £350,000 and said to be “brimming with period features over its three floors.”

On the ground floor there is a large lounge with feature fireplace set in open configuration to dining area with wood burner and chef style kitchen.

The rustic and period aesthetic is apparent in its timber floors, tall and chandeliered ceilings and quirky features.
