I AM a few months away from being 80 and I don’t like being told how to pay for goods or services ie by card or online banking.

On more than one occasion I have been asked if I have considered doing online banking so one day I said to the cashier at the counter “and have you considered becoming unemployed?”

Banks are closing left right and centre. In Darwen alone there is only the post office bank left.

I use a computer but I would never do banking online. I just don’t trust it. The scammers are getting better all the time and even using a computer you have to be careful.

I recently tried to book a few days away with rooms at a Travelodge and because I did not bank online I was told if I booked it on my landline I would be charged an extra £100. When I asked why, the answer was supply and demand so I told them it was one big rip off and I went elsewhere.

I don’t want a smartphone - they are the bane of my life.

Children and grandchildren visit then after ‘Hello’ out come the phones. They are even taken to the dinner table. No wonder children of today have lost the art of conversation”

And if they did not have a calculator they would not be able to add up and take away. I myself have done it while they are still thinking about it.

What a sad world we live in.
