AN EAST Lancashire hairdresser with a unique approach to her business has featured on a TV documentary series.

Joanna Embley, from Burnley, runs a hairdressing business from a narrow boat, dubbed The Ruff Narrowboat, which travels along the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

Her novel approach to the trade, which has also seen her appear on BBC North West, peaked the interest of Channel 4 series Living Wild: How to Change Your Life, with presenter Sophie Morgan arriving for an interview that was broadcast on Saturday evening.

Posting on social media Ms Embley said: "It was absolutely incredible to have Sophie and the crew come into my world, discuss how I went from buying a house, to a boat, how I've decided to do hairdressing on my boat, and much more."

Living Wild aims to meet people all around the UK living all kinds of out of the ordinary lifestyles.

The two part special series says that its subjects are all united by "a desire to build new lives around the things they love."

This was prompted by how lockdown has prompted people around the world to reconsider how they live and what their priorities are.

As well as Joanna Embley's floating salon, which she started after the pandemic struck, the two episodes have featured a crop farmer in Wales, a shepherd who raises a rare breed of sheep and sleeps outside with her flock, and a couple who have moved into a van in order to pursue their passion for paragliding.

So far customers have alongside the Leeds-Liverpool have enjoyed the opportunity to sample a slightly different hairdressing experience.

The series, which was broadcast on Saturday August 7 and Saturday August 14 is currently available to view for free on Channel 4oD.
