It’s GCSE results day and millions of students across the nation will be anxiously waiting to open their envelopes to read their grades.

No matter what those pieces of paper say, it’s a call for celebration and an excuse to dine at Blackburn’s finest restaurants.

Tripadvisor have revealed their top family-friendly restaurants and food-serving pubs in Blackburn based on ratings and user-reviews.

They would be fantastic places to visit this week to celebrate the end of GCSEs and a turbulent year for the education sector.

Here is TripAdvisor’s list:

1. Thira Restaurant, Darwen Street  Restaurant
 

According to Tripadvisor, this is the best family restaurant in Blackburn.

Bijumon, director and chef at the company, spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph.

He said: "We made a promise to [our customers] that we would make a "ripple" in the hospitality business of Lancashire.

"It is thanks to the support and patronage of these people that we are regarded as one of the best restaurant in town."

One Tripadvisor user wrote: “This is without a doubt the best Indian takeaway, we don’t often get takeaways but when we do this is the first place we think of.

“The food is delicious it’s southern Indian food so different to any other Indian we have ever had.”

“Visited with family and had a very enjoyable,” said another. “The meal where everybody ordered a different dish and every dish tasted excellent.”

2. Kebabish Original, Whalley New Road

This two flood restaurant serves grilled kebabs, chicken and whole host of other English and Mediterranean dishes.

It has a 4.5 rating on Tripadvisor and over 730 reviews.

One person said: “Amazing food and service had loads left over too.

“Everyone really enjoyed- definitely recommended. Food was prepared on time and very well presented.”

Another said: “Food is 15/10 each and every single time I visit.

“I’ve never read or heard of a bad rating. Great staff. Brilliant food. Beautiful. Definitely worth a visit with a family. Will be back soon.”

3. Calypso Caribbean Restaurant, Eanam Wharf

Fancy a taste of the Caribbean? Then look no further than Calypso Caribbean Restaurant.

One of the more recent reviews said: “Due to covid I’ve not been able to have a family meal here for over a year!

“Well you always impress- fab food, fab drinks fab atmosphere, lovely helpful staff and owner whom personally says goodbye! We will be back.”

Another wrote: “Great place, amazing atmosphere, quick service and an overall great place to have a meal with your family.”

4. Roomali At the Woodlands, Preston New Road
 

Roomali is the brainchild of three enthusiastic food-lovers who wanted to bring sophisticated dining to the whole family.

Roomali’s owners have entrusted their skilled team of chefs to produce an array of delicious Indian dishes to satisfy all tastes.

One happy customer wrote: “Excellent food. The service was excellent from soon as we walked in. Asif was brilliant and really well priced.”

Another said: “Went with the family as had heard a lot about this place.

“They didn't let us down. Food and service were both excellent. Great environment aswell. Would definitely recommend!”

5. Ego at the Knowles Arms, Pleckgate Road

This restaurant specialises in Mediterranean food, serving steaks, pizza and more.

One reviewer couldn’t fault the place.

They wrote: “Visit from out of towners. Service great. Friendly staff. Clean. Great selection. Delicious food. Well priced. 10 out of 10.”

Another said: “What a pleasure it was to go back to The Knowles Arms.

“Went with family for lunch, Food was excellent staff were lovely very welcoming and helpful and friendly.”

6. The Clog and Billycock

Have you ever been to The Clog and Billycock for a meal? If not, Tripadvisor reviewers think you need to.

After having a cask ale at the bar, settle down for a meal as food is served all day.

It has a 4/5 rating with over 600 ‘excellent’ reviews.

One person wrote: “Visited at the weekend and we will be coming again. The food was done to such a high quality. Presented and tasted amazing.”

Another said:  “They food, service and safety of the dinners was 10 / 10.

“Perfect meal. So good we booked again for next week before we left. You never disappoint at The Clog and Billycock.”
