A festival which will feature a strongman competition among a host of attractions is set to make a return next week.

Briercliffe Festival will be held on Saturday August 21 and will including a multitude of events including a ‘Lancashire Strongest’ competition, a dog show, fun fair and live music.

The day will kick off at 10.30am at the Hare and Hounds pub on Halifax Road where a float procession will travel to the Queen Street recreational ground.

The gates for the event will open to the public at 11am and the event will end at 9pm.

Briercliffe Festival organiser, Liam Kilbride said: “Briercliffe Festival has been a staple in the Burnley social calendar for many years now and is not one to be missed.

“After such a difficult year due to COVID-19, we’re proud to have P3P and Smith Brothers on board as our sponsors and are looking forward to the big event.”

Live music will come from indie bands such as The Vibe and Dirty Suns, as well as two DJ sets throughout the day and into the night.

Meanwhile, a competition to find Lancashire’s Strongest man and woman will judged by local strongman, Mark Felix.

Mark has taken part in several World Strongest Man competitions over the years.

The event is sponsored by sustainable energy specialist P3P Partners in partnership with high voltage electrical engineering firm Smith Brothers Contracting Ltd.

“Following a 10-year hiatus, the festival returned in 2018, only to be paused yet again in the wake of the pandemic.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the community coming together to share a great day out.”
