Seven teenagers will be heading to the country’s top two universities after achieving top grades in their A-Levels.

Eloise Lonsdale who attended Westholme; Zakariya Bux from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School; and Maisy Vasic who went to Burnley College will all be attending Oxford.

Zeba Phoplunkar who studied at Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College; Zoe Porter who went to Darwen Aldridge Community Academy; Timothy Roper from St Wilfrid’s Church of England School; and Rhys Mott from Accrington Academy have all been granted a spot at the University of Cambridge.

Language lover Eloise Lonsdale is looking forward to studying English Literature and French at St Hugh’s College, Oxford University.

Eloise achieved an outstanding four A* grades in classics, French, Spanish, and English Literature.

Eloise, 18, from Edgeworth, said: “The results haven’t really sunken in yet! I love the idea of being able to speak with people in their native tongue. When you learn a language, you also learn more about that culture.”

Head boy at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Zak Bux has earned his spot to Oxford to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

He achieved four A*s in physics, maths, further maths and history.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted with these results. In all honesty I did not expect to do this well so I want to say thank you so much to all my teachers for helping me get to this place today.”

Maisy Vasic, 18, from Bacup, will be studying Geography at the University of Oxford after achieving A*A* A in A Level Geography, Geology and Computer Science.

Zeba Phoplunkar from Tauheedul Islam Girls’ High School and Sixth Form College achieved the top A* grade in A-Level maths, biology and chemistry and will study medicine at the University of Cambridge.

She said: "I want to say thank you to all those that have helped me achieve one of my lifelong dreams.

“I want to thank my family for their endless support and the teachers at TIGHS who adapted their traditional teaching styles so that I was able to flourish.

“Even though this is all happening during an unprecedented time, I am grateful of those around me for making this journey as normal as Covid-19 would allow it."

Zoe Porter, who got three A*s and a B is heading to St John’s College, University of Cambridge to study History.

On getting her results she said: “DACA Sixth Form is a smaller sixth form which means you get to know everyone and, in my experience, everyone was very friendly. The teaching is very impressive as teachers strive to help you push yourself to your full potential."

Timothy Roper who studied at St Wilfrid’s in Blackburn is celebrating five A*s in biology, chemistry, physics, maths and the extended project qualification.

He will be starting at the University of Cambridge in September to also study Medicine.
