A MAN grabbed a female "acquaintance" by the throat and pushed her into some bushes during a dispute over a pair of trainers.
Blackburn magistrates heard the victim only suffered slight reddening as a result of the attack by Michael Bartley but the incident was witnessed by a police officer.
Bartley, 32, of Dunoon Drive, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting Jodie Shea. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £22 victim surcharge.
Eileen Rogers, prosecuting, said the incident happened on a Saturday afternoon on King Street, Blackburn.
Having grabbed her by the throat and pushed her into the bushes, Bartley raised his fist as if he was going to punch her.
"The officer went over and intervened and he immediately said that he shouldn't have done it," said Mr Rogers.
Richard Prew, defending, said there had been a minor dispute before Bartley grabbed the victim by the scruff of the neck.
"She made a statement and said her neck appeared red as a result of what he had just done," said Mr Prew.
