The coronavirus infection rate in Bolton has continued to drop — falling to its lowest level in many months.

Covid-19 rates are still rising in much of the country, however, Bolton along with the rest of Greater Manchester is seeing a continued fall.

Bolton is still recording by far the lowest number of cases in the Greater Manchester region.

The borough at different points during the pandemic had recorded the highest infection rates in the whole country, most recently in May and June as the town was a hotspot for the Delta variant of Covid-19.

This led to surge vaccination and testing to be implemented across the borough by the local public health team along with local NHS and CCG teams with the help of countless volunteers.

Testing and vaccination teams are still working across the town to jab as many residents as possible and keep the infection rates coming down.

In the seven days to August 1 Bolton recorded 545 new positive cases of Covid-19, equalling an infection rate of 189.5 new cases per 100,000 residents.

This is a significant drop from the previous seven days, to July 25, where the borough recorded an infection rate of 337.3 new cases per 100,000 residents.

Salford is now recording by far the highest number of cases in the city-region despite a fall, with Wigan recording the next lowest rates after Bolton.

Tameside, Bury, Trafford, and Rochdale are all recording a rate around 272/3 per 100,000 residents above Bolton
