A 14-hour yellow weather warning for storms has been issued by the Met Office.

The warning comes in at 10am on Friday (August 6) and lasts until 11.59pm the same day.

The area could see up to 100mm of rain fall during the day with slow moving thunderstorms set to hit the north of the country.

A spokesperson for the Met office said: “Heavy showers are expected across much of the UK on Friday.

"Within the warning area these showers and thunderstorms will be slow moving and may cause localised surface water impacts.

“Rainfall totals will vary considerably and not all locations will be affected by the heaviest showers.

"However, where the showers do occur there is potential for 20-30mm of rain in a short space of time and during the course of the day there is a chance that some places could see as much as 80-100mm build up.”

The weather warning has also warned of ‘localised surface water’ due to the slow-moving storm.

There is also a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, delays and some cancellations to train and bus services and spray and sudden flooding on roads which could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
