A MUSIC producer who has worked with Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent and Busta Rhymes has been presented with the Prime Minister’s Points Of Light Award.

Sabir Hussain, who lived in Nelson for 15 years and still has businesses there, is the founder of British Asian Radio.

Sabir, who goes by the name of Saby Khan, is the 1,657th recipient of the award.

The Points Of Light Award was introduced by President George Bush Sr in 1990 to reward individuals for ‘outstanding achievements’ and was introduced to the UK in 2014 by then Prime Minister David Cameron.

Saby said: “I was shocked when I was announced as the Prime Minister's Award recipient. It is the second highest honour in the UK after the Queen's honours and receiving this award shows how multi-cultural the UK has become and progressed in accepting arts and culture across the world.

“I would like to thank my family and friends for helping me build British Asian Radio.

"The Prime Minister Boris Johnson saw the hard work put in to make it a success and help young and disabled people. I heard I was one of the six people who have been selected out of 1,200 that week by Prime Minister for my hard work for the past 25 years to the UK arts and music industry."

Saby says he has worked with some of the biggest names of the hip hop industry including Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes and The Outlawz.

Robbie Moore MP, who presented the award on behalf of Mr Johnson, said: “Saby is a worthy recipient. Saby’s contribution to British Asian Radio has been pivotal in its success. He has a track record in championing multimedia, music production and campaigning for racial equality."
