FIVE Blackburn Rovers footballers scored their coronavirus jabs this week.

First team goalkeeper, Belgian international and last season’s Ewood Park player of the year Thomas Kaminski led the line for the first dose of their vaccinations.

Joining him at Blackburn Cathedral’s immunisation centre were right back Ryan Nyambe and experienced central defender Daniel Ayala.

Also on the team for the jabs on Monday were under-23s left back Lenni Cirino and under-23s midfielder Jared Harlock.

In addition, goalkeeping coach Ben Benson and performance analyst Rachel Hindle took the opportunity to be vaccinated.

This means that majority of players and the club staff have been vaccinated.

Fans’ favourite Nyambe said: “It’s so important we are all together in this. We all want life to return to normal and getting jabbed will protect yourself and help others.

“The vaccine site is in the perfect spot. It’s in the centre of town and the whole process of getting a dose takes such a short about of time.

“I’d urge everyone to get their jabs as soon as possible.”

Dominic Harrison, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s public health director, said: “We’re really happy to be working alongside the NHS and Blackburn Rovers and their players on this vaccination campaign.

“It’s so important to see these young players embrace the opportunity to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their teammates, opposition players as well as their families and friends.

“To see young athletes acting as advocates for the vaccine programme is really important and will hopefully be very influential on others coming forward. They have been keen to not miss out and that’s the message to everyone. Getting the vaccine means you can get back to doing all the things you’ve missed, as soon as possible.”

Jane Scattergood, Covid-19 vaccination director for Lancashire and South Cumbria, said: “All adults are now eligible. We are inviting everyone over 18 to bring their second dose appointment forward to eight weeks to ensure everyone has the strongest protection as soon as possible.

“The Covid vaccines are two-dose vaccines so you must have both doses for maximum benefit. Remember – it’s a game of two halves – you need both doses. Do the double, be a champion and let’s beat this virus together.”

Blackburn Cathedral is open seven days a week from 8.30pm to 7.30pm to anyone aged 18 and over for both first and second dose AstraZeneca and Pfizer. No appointments are needed.
