UPDATE: The road has re-opened.
The M65 has been closed due to an incident between junctions 3 and 4.
Blackburn with Darwen Police said: “Please be aware that the M65 between J3 and J4 in both directions is currently closed due to an ongoing police incident. Please avoid the area and use an alternative route where possible. Thank you for your patience.”
The incident is believed to have happened around 8pm. Emergency services and police are at the scene.
Highways Northwest said there was a mile of congestion on approach to the junctions.
Highways Northwest posted: "The M65 in BOTH directions J3 (RileyGreen BlackburnWest) to J4 / Blackburn with Darwen Services (BlackburnSouth Bolton Darwen A666) is in the process of being CLOSED due to a Police incident. Traffic Officers are currently at the scene."
Traffic diversions are in place
Eastbound traffic is being diverted via the solid triangle:
Exit M65 at J3, take the second exit and follow the A674 northbound
At A674/A6061 junction, turn right and follow the A674 eastbound
At the junction with the A6062, turn right and follow the A6062 until the junction with the A666
Turn right and follow the A666 until Earcroft Way
Turn left and travel along Earcroft Way to rejoin the M65 J4
Westbound traffic is being via the hollow square diversion symbol:
Follow the above diversion, but in reverse.
