A 'COOK your own steak’ restaurant chain plans to build on the successful opening of its branch in Blackburn.

After the new outlet in the town proved popular, owner Andrew Novak wants to add extra eateries to his business.

Founded in Rawtenstall in 2014, Firepit Restaurant and Cocktail Bar chain already had sister branches in Southport and St Annes when it came to Blackburn's One Cathedral Square this summer creating 30 jobs.

Its signature dish is steak-on-a-stone cooked at the table on a 350-degree lava rock, which holds its temperature to ensure it is done exactly to the customer’s liking.

Now after the success of the Blackburn branch Mr Novak is eyeing up opening new restaurants in Preston, Lancaster and Warrington.

The chain was the third tenant of the Cathedral Quarter office block’s main restaurant following the A Mano and Al Cristallo Italian eateries.

Already employing 130 people in its existing four outlets, the chain hopes to take on another 100 staff as it expands as people return to eating out after the easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Mr Novak said: “The Cathedral Quarter was an ideal location to open a restaurant in Blackburn. This area has been transformed following investment and when a suitable location became available, we acted quickly to grab it. “The Blackburn restaurant has had great start to business since opening and we look forward to a busy summer.”

“I am now keen to secure additional locations across the region to expand the business, with my sights set on opening restaurants in Preston, Lancaster and Warrington.”

Cllr Damian Talbot, Blackburn with Darwen Council's leisure boss, said: "This is fantastic news.

"The opening of the Firepit restaurant has been a great success and it is a real addition to Blackburn town centre's hospitality offer.

"It is good to see an East Lancashire business expanding."

Laura Bradley, from law firm Harrison Drury’s commercial property team who advised Mr Novak on the lease of the Blackburn premises said: “Not only do Andrew’s family’s restaurants provide a unique eating experience, the successful restaurant chain supports employment in the local areas in which it operates.

The restaurant, which holds up to 120 diners, has a broad menu which includes vegetarian options. It also offers live music and evening entertainment.

"Andrew has great plans to open more outlets and we are ready to support him along the way.”
