A man took his own life close to an East Lancashire beauty spot after leaving a note for his wife.

Adam Stringman, 44, was found hanged close to Rowley lake, in Burnley, on the morning of March 23 this year.

An inquest at The Landmark in Burnley heard how Mr Stringman had left a note for his wife, apologising for his actions, before leaving their home in Mayfair Road in the town.

Coroner Richard Taylor said that on the morning of March 23, Julia Nightingale had been walking close to the lake, as she does every morning before work, when she found Adam.

He said: “She called 999 and an ambulance attended, and paramedics pronounced Adam dead.”

The inquest heard how Adam had visited his GP in early 2017 suffering with anxiety and had been referred to Minds Matter.

However, by August that year he had been discharged from the service as he said he felt more settled.

Minds matter had no further contact with Adam after August 2017.

A statement from his wife Gillian Stringman was read in court, with Mr Taylor saying: “On the night of March 22, she had gone to bed and there didn’t seem to be anything unusual, but when she woke up in the morning he wasn’t there.

“A note was found downstairs, which offered an apology to his wife and family.”

Mr Taylor recorded a conclusion of suicide.
