A ticket machine and passenger shelter at an East Lancashire train station has been smashed and damaged.

On Saturday, officers were called to Mill Hill station in Blackburn following reports that the ticketing machine had been smashed along with the windows on the passenger shelter area.

Police attended the station and spotted a teenager running from the area.

He was caught up with and found to be in possession of a hammer.

Police arrested the youth and are continuing to make further enquiries.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Mill Hill station, Blackburn, yesterday, following reports that the ticket machine and shelter windows had been smashed.

"A 13-year-old youth who ran from the scene was detained and found in possession of a hammer.

"Enquiries into the criminal damage are ongoing."
