It was a busy Saturday for police in Nelson as they dealt with drink drivers and people going equipped for theft.
Earlier in the evening officers stopped a car on Broadway to have a word with the driver.
They conducted a roadside breath test and found the man to be over the limit.
He was duly arrested and will be charged in due course.
A police spokesperson said: "The taskforce have this evening stopped another vehicle on Broadway in the town centre of Nelson.
"The driver of the vehicle provided a road side breath test of 65 and has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
"Once this driver sobers up at custody he will then be charged and will appear before the courts."
Later, officers returned to their patrols where a man was arrested after being chased by police and found to be in possession of bolt cutters and several other tools.
The spokesperson added: "Following dealing with the drink driver, task force were back out targeting.
"One male ran from police and was detained after a short foot chase.
"Following a search the male was found to be in possession of bolt cutters and numerous other tools going equipped for theft.
"One male arrested and spending the night in police custody."
