A man went from being caught littering by police to spending a night in the cells for drink driving.

On Sunday July 25, officers from the taskforce were patrolling on Blackburn Road in Oswaldtwistle's West End when they spotted a man open the driver's door of a parked car and throw a can under the vehicle.

The police stopped to speak with the man and asked that he picked up his litter.

After doing so then man got back in the car and drove away. However, the officers suspected something was not quite right so stopped the vehicle and asked to speak with the driver again.

He was breathalysed and found to be three times over the limit.

Police also discovered he had been disqualified from driving.

A spokesperson for the force said: "On Sunday July 25, taskforce were driving along Blackburn Road, Westend when they noticed a parked vehicle and witnessed a male open the driver’s door and throw a can under his vehicle.

"Officers stopped to speak to the male and request that he pick up his litter.

"After collecting his rubbish the male got back into the vehicle and began to “kangaroo” down the pavement.

"Officers stopped the male again and asked him to get out of the vehicle and whilst speaking to the male out of the vehicle, officers could smell intoxicants and the male was breathalysed.

"The results showed that the male was nearly three times over the legal limit, further checks revealed that he was disqualified from driving and had been a number of times before.

"If that wasn’t enough, the owner of the vehicle then advised police that their vehicle had been taken without their consent.

"This male went from littering to spending a night in the cells and a court appearance for numerous offences."
