A TRADITIONAL pub has been taken back to its former ‘name and glory’ after a refurbishment.

The Railway Tavern, Bury Road, Rawtenstall, has been re-opened by Simon Smith, 41, and given its original name back.

Simon, who also runs Revival sports bar on the same road, has said that the pub and outside areas have been done up too.

He said: “Nobody ever called it the Riverside Inn - they always call is the Tav so it was a no-brainer to call it its original name.

“The locals have loved it, when we posted on social media that we were renaming it back people reacted really well.”

The pub, which Simon believes to be well over 100 years old, has been given a traditional look with a ‘modern twist’.

They have kept some of the original features, including keeping the bar, and have also kept the original layout.

Simon added: “Right the way through the pub we have kept it traditional but with a modern twist.

“The whole pub has been refurbished because it was in quite a state when we went in.

“We have kept the original bar but it has been refurbished.

“As far as I can tell, that is the bar that has been in there since it opened so we wanted to keep it.”

The pub is open seven days a week and serves a selection of local cask ales from breweries including Moorhouse's in Burnley.

Simon said that this was an important factor for him to keep original local ales in the pub which he believes is vital to giving it an ‘older pub’ feel.
