A father of twins is attempting to break two world records on his racing scooter.

Craig Holden, 49, is hoping to log the fastest mile and furthest distance in an hour on his scooter when he attempts to break two Guinness World Records on August 20.

The father from Waddington was sitting with the 11-year-old twins, Ethan and Lucas, reading the Guinness World Record Book, when one of the boys asked if he could attempt a world record.

He said: “I wanted to show my boys that if you work hard, you can achieve these things.

“Also in a few years when people will say ‘lockdown can you remember that’ I can say that I tried to break two world records.”

When Craig said, not yet, the boys asked if their dad could attempt a world record himself.

As an active cyclist, Craig started looking into what world records had been set in those areas but after realising that these records would not be feasible, Chris looked into scooter records.

Craig added: “With all the cycling I have done, I hoped I was in decent shape to attempt one of these.

“With a normal scooter you just wouldn’t get anywhere near so I needed a proper racing scooter to make a proper attempt.

“I think I am ready. It’s taken a good part of three months just to get in some kind of shape to get near breaking the records.’ The current world record for travelling a mile on a scooter is six minutes and 15.81 seconds while the record for the furthest distance travelled in an hour is 12km.

Craig has been training for six months and is now waiting for August 20 when he will attempt both records at Seedhill Athletics Track in Barrowford.
