A man who was wanted by police for failing to appear in court on a theft charge has handed himself in.

Robert Towers, 39, from Bamber Bridge, came forward to police following an appeal, and was due to appear before Preston Magistrates Court on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the police said: "He is the second victory in South Division as part of Operation Hunter, which targets some of the county's most wanted offenders trying to evade justice.

"This comes after Adam Bhamji, who has been wanted on recall to prison since last year, was arrested on Saturday on the M5 motorway.

"The vehicle he was travelling in was stopped by West Mercia Police who arrested Bhamji, also known as 'Birchy', 38, before he was brought back to Lancashire.

"Bhamji, from Farrington Moss, has now been returned to prison where he will serve the remainder of his 10 year sentence for aggravated burglary.

"He has also been bailed in relation to allegations of assault and will be spoken to at a later date in connection with these offences.

"We have made more than 50 arrests in South Division since the campaign started earlier this month and we now need your help to find others trying to evade capture."
