Traffic is delayed on the M6 for up to 50 minutes following an ‘incident’.

The M6 northbound was closed at junction 28 earlier this afternoon following a crash.

Traffic officers were called and closed the motorway causing 6.5miles of tail backs.

Police believe that the motorway tailbacks could be a result of a number of incidents that have occured through the day on the M6.

The most recent incident at junction 28 involved a lorry and two cars.

Speaking on Twitter, Highways England said: “Please be aware that this M6 northbound incident is causing delays of 50 mins above normal journey time for this time of day.

“There is just over 6.5 miles of congestion on approach.

“Please allow plenty of extra time for your journey if you are travelling in the area.”

It is believed that one casualty was treated at the scene however it is unclear whether the casualty has been take to hospital.

The ambulance service has been contacted for comment.

The lanes have now been re-opened.
