Earlier this week we learnt of a gentleman who seemed to be so infuriated that his blue bin was not collected he dumped the contents in the back alley.

I mean, I do not condone his actions but like many other people we ‘kind of understand where he is coming from’.

Not having your rubbish collected because of a minor indiscretion has got to be one of the most infuriating things ever. With so much going on in the world why do get so angry when someone questions our integrity when disposing of our rubbish?

We are after all trying our best are we not?

Just take the bins and be done with it. How hard can it be? Why must be made to feel like the criminals when we are just trying to help the environment out?

I would like to meet that one resident who has managed to separate the rubbish with such efficiency that he or she has never been reprimanded.

I am going to be honest and up front. I have an issue with the pizza box rule. I find it hard to believe that a bin can be contaminated from a pizza box. Especially when the box has no remnants of the pizza left in it. The idea that this ‘machine’ can’t handle a bit of salami and cheese puzzles me somewhat. I do not believe a society that can track me from space struggles with a few crumbs on cardboard.

Small plastic wrappers and crisp bags should be placed in the burgundy bin for normal household rubbish. I almost feel guilty doing this. These have to be recycled - it says so on the wrapper?

I also have a problem with the takeaway box rule. I want to put the takeaway box into the grey recycling bin but am told if I do so I will be slapped with that shameful sticker telling the world I am stupid.

That is what it essentially isn’t it? A sticker to tell the neighbours this man is so stupid he does not know how to separate his rubbish. Despite instructions in several languages and pictures telling him what to do he still thinks he knows best.

Where else is this rubbish to go then? In the landfill?

Then there is the most perplexing question of all. Why must I clean the jar before I place into the bin? If this is going to smashed and recycled surely it will be cleaned and decontaminated before they decide to reuse the material?
