TODAY'S coronavirus rates have shown that all East Lancashire boroughs other than Hyndburn have recorded an increase in cases.

Public Health England has also shown that Rossendale still has the highest rates of infection of the five local borough.

However, as has been the case for several weeks, none of East Lancashire's boroughs were found to be in the top five most infected in England for the seven days to July 16, according to Public Health England.

Blackburn with Darwen meanwhile remains the local borough with the lowest infection rates, having at one time been the worst affected area in the country.

Meanwhile all of the areas with the top five highest week on week rises are now not only outside Lancashire, but outside the North West entirely.

They are:

  • Redcar & Cleveland (up from 761.2 to 1,528.3)
  • Copeland (467.9 to 1,019.3)
  • Stockton-on-Tees (645.1 to 1,167.5)
  • Middlesbrough (842.0 to 1,351.3)
  • Castle Point (257.8 to 713.7)

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent four days (July 17-20) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

However, all East Lancashire boroughs bar one have recorded increases in cases.

East Lancashire:
