AN EARLY hours motorist drew the attention of police because of her speed and she had no lights on.

Blackburn magistrates heard Megan Kendall turned off the main road and abandoned her car in the middle of Fountains Avenue in Simonstone and ran off.

The court was told she was quickly detained and failed a breathalyser. Checks revealed she was a provisional licence holder and had no insurance.

Kendall, 21, of Poets Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, without insurance and other than in accordance with a licence. She was fined £120 with £85 costs and £34 victim surcharge and banned from driving for 20 months.

Zabair Afzal, defending, said his client was genuinely remorseful and upset to be appearing in court for the first time.

"She says she will never find herself in this position again," said Mr Afzal.
