A MAN put a duvet over his partner's head and got her in a headlock during a row over "something and nothing."

Blackburn magistrates heard the victim thought she was being suffocated.

She later told police that Daniel Carr had assaulted her physically and mentally during their "toxic" relationship.

"I don't think he should be breathing the same oxygen as me," she said in a victim impact statement. "He has ruined my life."

Carr, 25, of Ivinson Road, Darwen, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was made subject to a community order for two years with conditions that he attends the Building Better Relationships Programme and completes 15 days' rehabilitation activity requirement. He was fined £120 with £135 costs and £95 victim surcharge and made subject to a restraining order for two years.

Gareth Price, defending, said the offence went back to July 2020 and there had been no suggestion of any misbehaviour in that time.

"The probation service have highlighted that there are issues which need to be addressed by this young man and he is happy to go along with that," said Mr Price.

"He was keen for me to offer his apologies in open court to this young lady.

"There is no objection to the restraining order which mirrors the bail conditions he has been subject to for the last 12 months."
