Burst water main flooded the access road to the new running track being constructed in Witton Park, Blackburn, 1984
WHEN work began to create new sporting facilities in Blackburn’s Witton Park everyone was expecting a running track not a swimming pool.
Taken in 1984 this photo shows the access road to the track completely flooded after an excavator hit a water main.
Clearly the construction traffic had ignored the sign but given the road was now more than a foot deep it’s unlikely any vehicle would find its way through.Thankfully the leak was repaired and the running track successfully completed.
