Since the question was first raised of funding and siting a statue in honour of former Blackburn MP Barbara Castle, I haven’t yet heard any mention of what about her successor, Jack Straw?
Surely he too qualifies for this unique appreciation since he was the town’s MP for longer, and also spent more years in the Cabinet than did Mrs Castle?
Especially in this day and age of striving for equality, it behoves councillors to be expedient and discuss the matter of where his statue should be erected, and who picks up the tab, at the same time as deciding about Barbara’s, otherwise it’s just a case of “I’m All Right, Jack” - for her!
