Two people have been made to pay more than £2,000 each for breaking Covid regulations after being found away from their homes during a national lockdown.
Ellie McIntosh, 26, of Chapel Street, Rishton, has been fined after travelling to Hodge Close quarry car park in Ambleside, Cumbria, on February 14 from Blackburn, while the country was in a third national lockdown.
McIntosh was found guilty of the offence in Carlisle Magistrates' Court and was fined £1,760, plus a victim surcharge of £176 and court costs of £85 – a total penalty of £2,021.
Rafakut Ali, 42, of Montague Street, Blackburn, was fined after going to Lower Audley Street on November 8, after the country had been put into a second lockdown. He pleaded not guilty to the charge but the case was proven in his absence.
Preston Magistrates Court ordered him to pay a fine of £1,760, plus a victim surcharge of £176 and £85 to the Crown Prosecution service – a total payment of £2,021.
During lockdown restrictions, the stay at home legislation was in place, with people only allowed to meet up with their social bubble, if they had one, or outside with one other person for exercise.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Mr Ali pleaded guilty to the offence. He in fact pleaded not guilty and was found guilty in his absence.
