A ‘fruity’ mural has been placed on the side of a community centre.

Seven young people designed the mural at Hippings Vale Community Centre in Oswaldtwistle which depicts a fruit bowl and fruit in the style of famous artists.

The group of seven, Kane McInery, Harley Murray, Niamh Brotherton, Rebecca Aspinall, Tippi Francis, Cian Bamford and Abby Knight, worked with Blackburn artist Jane Birtwell from graphic design company D&AW to produce the prints.

As part of the Healthier Future project funded by Blackburn with Darwen Council, the young people based the designs in the style of five famous artists, Banksy, Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein.

Through the project the young people created fruit characters, researched different artist styles and created characters and cartoons, while working towards achieving their Arts Award at Bronze level, a national award by Trinity College London.

Project co-ordinator Gayle Knight from the Civic Arts Centre and Theatre said: "Arts Award is perfect for projects like this as the young people can achieve the award whilst doing something interesting and creative.

"The mural is already attracting a lot of positive reaction from the locals."
