Police found two weapons in a man's underwear after arresting him for brandishing a kitchen knife on a petrol station forecourt.

On Friday night, officers from the rural taskforce in Rossendale were sent to the Shell Garage on Haslingden Road after receiving reports that a man was acting in a threatening manner towards members of the public.

The reports suggested the man was armed with a large knife and when police arrived they found the man was waving a large kitchen knife around on the petrol station forecourt.

A spokesperson for the police said: "This evening your Rossendale rural taskforce attended reports of a male acting in a threatening manner towards members of the public at the Shell Garage on Haslingden Road in Rossendale armed with a knife.

"Officers were quickly on scene to find the man brandishing a large kitchen knife on the petrol forecourt."

The man was arrested and was taken into custody where upon a search of his person, police found another two knives stashed in his underwear.

The spokesperson added: "He has been arrested without incident and is currently in custody.

"During a search in custody two further knives were found in his underwear."
