Two Blackburn College students have been successful in the national BTEC Awards.

Myles Campbell, 18, won an award in the sport category while Declan Rigby, 17, was recognised in the engineering category.

Clitheroe resident Myles Campbell was recognised with a silver award in the BTEC Sports Learner of the Year category.

Myles was praised for his positive attitude towards the practical elements of his Level 3 BTEC Sport course and how he embraced his work experience.

Myles said: “I want to become a role model to other students by becoming a teacher at some stage, this is because my college tutors are my role models and I want to follow in their footsteps.”

He will progress to BA (Hons) Physical Education and School Sport at Edge Hill University in September 2021 and wishes to become a PE Teacher.

Meanwhile, former Walton-le-Dale High School pupil Declan, was recognised in the Engineering Student of the Year category.

Declan will return to Blackburn College in September 2021 to complete the second year of his Engineering Extended Diploma.

Dr Fazal Dad, Principal and Chief Executive of Blackburn College said: “I’m incredibly proud that Myles has been awarded a silver BTEC Star Award.

Of Declan, Dr Fazal Dad said: “Throughout Declan’s studies he has shown great determination but also throughout the lockdown period he has worked incredibly hard.”
