JUST ONE East Lancashire borough has amongst the highest rates of coronavirus infections in the country.

Rossendale currently stands as the borough with the eighth highest infection rate in England, while Hyndburn is now out of the top ten and stands at eleventh.

According to Public Health England Rossendale recorded 444 new cases in the seven days leading to July 2.

Meanwhile, the five areas with the biggest week-on-week rises in the same period are:

  • South Tyneside (up from 282.2 to 765.7)
  • Oxford (194.2 to 631.0)
  • Tamworth (319.4 to 751.0)
  • Gateshead (314.3 to 673.6)
  • North East Lincolnshire (306.5 to 660.6)
