THE year was 1989 and a major renovation project was underway on Seedall Grove in Huncoat.

The three-storey council flats were undergoing extensive modernisation.

The concrete staircases and dilapidated stairwells including rusting wrought iron balconies had been ripped out and new enclosed staircases installed all encased in an attractive tinted glass facade.

The blacks were also re-skimmed and painted and the individual flats received new windows and redecorated with a number of them having new kitchens and bathrooms installed.

Extensive landscaping around the blocks was also carried out for residents.
