AS Blackburn town centre was changing considerably in the mid-Sixties and a new market was built, this photograph from 1967 gives a different perspective on the new-look town centre.
It shows Brown Street at the back of the market where many traders would bring their vans to unload. A series of roller doors gave access to the market and in the early mornings this area would be a hive of activity.
On the left you can just see the sign of the Matthew Brown pub The Regent with Thwaites’ Waterloo Hotel on the corner of Penny Street which was adjacent to the brewery.
