A fundraiser is running the coast of England and Wales – the equivalent of 75 marathons - in just 87 days.

Dr Tom Crossland, an NHS Clinical Psychologist, has taken a three-month sabbatical to run 1900 miles around the coastline of England and Wales to raise awareness and funds for Tribe Freedom Foundation which combats Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery.

Tom was born with Cerebral Palsy and has fought it all his life.

He began his journey on June 2 Gallowstree Common, Surrey where 40 friends and families gathered to see him off. This weekend he was in Whitby on the East coast.

He is set to reach Lancashire county in the coming ten days.

While in the region he will be running from Milnthorpe to Pilling on Wednesday 7 July, from Pilling to Clifton on Friday 9 July and from Clifton to Simonswood on 10 July. Then from Simonswood to Flint on Sunday 11 July.

Tom said: “Run to Refuge pre-pandemic was a 2000 mile run from Greece to London to raise awareness of the needs of the most vulnerable people in society including refugees and survivors of exploitation and modern slavery.

“It has now taken a new direction due to government restrictions and the need to ensure we can stay safe but the mission stays the same.

“I am taking on an epic 1900-mile run around the coast of England and Wales, to raise awareness of the needs of survivors of trafficking.  The goal is to raise £50,000 for the Tribe Freedom Foundation, a charity inspired by a 1,000 mile run to set up the first UK home for trafficked children.”

He added: “By making the journey around the coast on foot I will experience some of the challenges that refugees experience and highlight how the right of asylum is fundamental to a compassionate society."
