WANDERERS find out tomorrow morning how their return to League One will be mapped out with the release of the EFL fixture list.

Just 47 days after Ian Evatt’s men grabbed an automatic promotion slot with victory against Crawley on the final day of the season, they will learn how life back in the third tier will unfold with big games against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Portsmouth, Ipswich Town and Wigan Athletic.

And perhaps more importantly, Wanderers fans will discover when they should finally make a return to the University of Bolton Stadium for a competitive game, their last having been on February 29, 2020.

Fixtures will be released at 9am with the first-round draw for the EFL Cup and Papa John’s Trophy to follow later in the day.

And the excitement, says club captain Antoni Sarcevic, will not be limited to the supporters, with Wanderers’ players also eager to find out how the campaign will develop.

“Everyone looks forward to the fixtures coming out and it’s the day before we go back in, so it’ll be great reading who we have got and then meeting up with the lads again on Friday and having a chat, getting excited about them,” he told The Bolton News.

“It’s football – we all talk, we all read into them. You know it’s a competitive league but you want that half-decent start where there’s a nice run of home fixtures that can get you settled in, then build momentum.

“We didn’t start well last year but you’d hope we can be better this time around, maintain that good set of results, and I have got a good feeling we can be one of the sides chasing at the top of the table.”

Wanderers’ players return for pre-season fitness testing on Friday and then have a final weekend off before plunging into full preparations for the new campaign.

A scheduled training camp in Scotland is understood to be going ahead despite the Scottish government placing a ‘ban’ on non-essential travel from Bolton, which has been in force since May 24 and recently extended to Salford and the Greater Manchester area.

Sarcevic is relishing the opportunity to meet up again with the team-mates with whom he enjoyed such success in the latter half of last season.

“You miss the camaraderie, the lads, everything about it, so I don’t mind pre-season,” he said.

“It’s basically your second home, so you enjoy the time off with family but it gets to a point where you’ve had fun and you want to get back to it.

“I’m 29 now and I love playing here, especially being captain. Coming off the back of last year I can’t wait to get going again and picking up where we left off.

“I have had a little sniff at the play-offs in League One with Plymouth and just missed out and then the following years there was a big rebuild of the squad which cost us and ultimately meant relegation, I have seen both sides of it,” he said.

“I know this is a competitive league. It isn’t just about us, there are other clubs with stature, but we feel like we can be at the front of it.”
