EAST Lancashire is lucky to have some of the most wonderful pubs and eateries around.

During lockdown, there was nothing more (apart from getting the kids back to school) that we were looking forward to than getting back down the pub to share some more memories and good times.

The hospitality sector has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic so we have decided to put the spotlight each week on a different pub in the area telling you exactly what they specialise in.

If you think there is any pub that should be worthy of a mention then email robert.kelly@nqnw.co.uk with your suggestion.

This week to start us off we have spoken to the owners of the Black Bull in Blackburn.

Name of the pub: The Black Bull

Address: Brokenstone Road, Blackburn

Landlord or Landlady: Robert Bell and Wendy

How long have you been in charge?: 10 years

How many barstaff do you have and their names?: Mark, Scott, Daniel, Kie, Danielle, Laura.

Tell us a bit of history of the pub: It was bought by Robert Bell back in 2011, with the Brewery (Three B’s Brewery) built on the back.

Do you serve food? If so what is on the menu: No Food but award winning beers!

Is there a beer garden?: Yes

Do you have any darts/snooker/pool teams?: No

Most popular drink served: Doff Cocker and Black Bull Bitter which are both brewed on site.

Most memorable moment at the pub: Our opening day, 5pm on St George’s Day 23rd April 2011. It was so busy as we had a queue outside when we opened the doors. There were four or five people at the bar all the time. We just wish we could do it again like that.

Do you have an entertainment line-up?: No

Have you faced any challenges within the industry?: Covid has been the biggest thing affecting us. I (Scott) live above the pub and have to walk through the pub to get upstairs and it has been so eerie and sad not seeing people there. We are taking booking to manage things with Covid and I am sure a lot of pubs would like to allow walk-ins but we can't.

The best thing about running a pub is?: The customers who appreciate the range, quality and taste of our beers. Their support means so much to our family run business.

The worst thing about running a pub is?: Having it closed during COVID-19.

The perfect hangover cure is?: More beer!
