A ROAD has been closed due to a fire in which two people had to be rescued. 

Three fire engines from Burnley and Nelson were called to a fire at a mid-terrace house on Bougham Street, Burnley at around 7.20am on Wednesday June 23.

While at the scene, crews used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to fight the fire.

Two casualties were rescued from the property by the firefighters.

Meanwhile police officers in announced that they had closed nearby Daneshouse Road while emergency vehicles were in attendance.

Road users have been advised to avoid the area and travel by alternative routes.

Officers have said that they will provide an update once the road is reopened.
