LANCASHIRE locals are lucky enough to have some gorgeous countrysides and scenic views right on their doorsteps in the county.
To celebrate the longest day of the year and 2021’s summer solstice, we have compiled a list of the very best places to watch the sunset in Lancashire.
Even if the cloud coverage is too intense today, you can still visit these great spots once the weather clears up and the sun is back out.
Here are five great places to watch the sunset in Lancashire:
- Pendle Hill
Once you manage to scale the daunting Pendle Hill, you can enjoy wide-spread views over Lancashire.
On a clear day, you can see as far as Blackpool Tower but even when it’s overcast you can still enjoy views over Colne, Nelson, Padiham, Pendle and Burnley.
It’s the perfect place to watch the sun sink into the countryside hills.
- Jubilee Tower, Darwen
This tower is almost 85 feet high and Darwen Hill itself is more than 1220 feet high- which is certainly high enough to get a great sunset view in Lancashire.
One Trip Advisor user visited on a clear day in 2019 and only had positive things to say about the views.
They wrote: “I really enjoyed the views and the welcoming breeze at the top.
“You can see various reservoirs and India Mill in Darwen and just down the hill is Sunnyhurst with a nice pub for refreshments.”
- Longridge Fell, Longridge, Ribble Valley
If you have ever embarked on this walking route in Bowland, you will know just how gorgeous this walking route can be.
Starting at the Jeffery Hill car park, make your way to the summit of Spire Hill.
Once you have reached the top, you will be surrounded by green countryside view and Bowland Forest, Beacon Fell and the Trough of Bowland will all be in your eyeline while you enjoy the sunset.
- Gragareth
This mountain straddles the Lancashire and North Yorkshire border
As Lancashire’s highest point, it is an obvious inclusion to the list.
It’s more than 2060 feet high and boasts of the Lake District and Morecambe Bay, to name a few.
5. Witton Country Park, Blackburn

You don’t need to travel far in order to enjoy a walk with seriously impressive views.
Witton Country Park is said to offer fantastic views if you know where to walk.
The park covers 480 acres of countryside and is peppered with beauty spots and nature trails.
One Trip Advisor user said: “We went a mile up and onto the top ridge where the views were superb.”
Another said: “The views are stunning as the wooded areas rise up the hillside around the valley.
Park up with a picnic and enjoy views of the sun setting over the fields and trees.
