A FOOTBALL match has been organised in memory of a popular non-league player who died last month.

The James Dean Memorial Trophy will pit a Chorley Old Boys side (featuring members of the 2014 NPL title-winning squad) against a Halifax Old Boys side. The game will take place on August 8 at Victory Park - with several family-fun activities lined up throughout the day.

Mr Dean's body was found on May 9 in the Moscow Mill Street area of Oswaldtwistle. The 35-year-old, who had a successful footballing career and had spells at FC Halifax, Chorley and Bury FC, had been reported missing several days beforehand.

Following his death, thousands of people - from within the footballing community and beyond - paid tribute to Mr Dean.

Jamie Vermiglio, Chorley FC Manager said: "It’s an honour for us to be able to support the event and to give everyone the opportunity to commemorate the life of Deano.

"We hope the event will give his boys, family and friends a chance to see that the admiration for Deano extends far and wide."

As well as the Old Boys game the afternoon will feature live music, food & drink, Leeds United legend Eddie Gray as guest speaker, a bouncy castle, face painting and more.
