A nursery which closed last week due to a positive case of Covid is asking parents to not send in their children if they have tested positive for the virus.

Rainbow Childcare in Darwen has put out the plea on their social media page stating that they have had reports that parents are testing positive yet continuing to send their child to nursery.

The nursery closed on June 9 after a positive case and are now saying that if a child shows symptoms, they will require proof of a negative PCR test before the child can return.

On social media, a spokesperson for the nursery said: "We are having numerous reports that parents are testing positive for coronavirus and continuing to send their children into nursery, children who should be self isolating are not, we know how frustrating 10 days isolating is but this is important to protect others.

"When we reopen on the 21.06.2021 Please be aware if you child shows any symptoms or has a high temperature, while in our care your child will need to be collected and you will be asked to take your child for a PCR test, we will also ask for proof of the result."

The nursery on Barley Bank Street offers care to children of 12 months old up until school age as well as school clubs and a collection service for a local school.

They added: "It is our job to protect the children in our care the best we can, so asking you to test your children with a PCR is our way forward, as trust is becoming very difficult at the moment.

"Please follow the self isolating guidance for 10 days, if you or your child has been in contact with a positive case.

"If your child is unwell, shows symptoms or has a high temperature, please do not send your child into nursery until a PCR has been taken and we have a negative result.

"Let’s work together please and protect our children their families and our staff, We don’t want to have to close the nursery again."

The Lancashire Telegraph has attempted to contact the nursery.
