Two men have been jailed after they were caught on CCTV launching a ‘ferocious and sustained attack’ on a homeless man.

Victim Dean Green-Lynch was trying to protect another homeless man after Alex Adamou and Curtis Perry, who were on a night out in Blackburn, started shouting at him.

The pair then shouted ‘you want some?’ before raining down kicks and punches on Mr Green-Lynch as he sat in his sleeping bag.

Adamou and Perry were jailed at Preston Crown Court after pleading guilty to assault.

The court heard how on the night of January 5, Adamou and Perry, both of Wensley Road, Blackburn, had been out drinking. They passed Mr Green-Lynch, on their way to The Sun pub on Astley Gate.

Prosecutor David Clarke said: “Mr Green-Lynch was homeless in January last year and of an evening his habit was to sit under the bridge near the bike sheds in Astley Gate in Blackburn.

“Two men approached him while he was sitting in his sleeping bag. He did not know the men but they were friendly with him and spoke to him before they made their way to The Sun.”

Mr Clarke told the court a short time later the two men returned and asked if Mr Green-Lynch had seen their phone, to which he replied he had and had put it to one side for them.

He returned it to the men, who were very grateful and even gave Mr Green-Lynch £6.50 as a thank-you before returning to the pub.

Not long after, the men were ejected from The Sun and then made their way to The Bees Knees.

Mr Clarke said: “Mr Green-Lynch could see the two men, and they were shouting at his friend Alan, who was also homeless. Concerned, he shouted over to them to leave his friend alone.

“At this point the two men came back over to Mr Green-Lynch and shouted ‘you want some’ before attacking him.”

The incident was caught on CCTV. Footage showed Adamou and Perry brutally punching and kicking Mr Green-Lynch to his head and body.

Mr Clarke said he counted six kicks and at least two or three to the head, before Adamou grabbed his victim while he was still in his sleeping bag and dragged him across the ground.

He said: “The victim was not in a position to defend himself and the defendants only left when members of the public began shouting at them to stop.”

Both men were arrested not long after and denied any involvement until proceedings were brought to court.

Perry was jailed for 14 months and Adamou for 13 months.

After the case, Mr Green-Lynch said: " There was blood pouring from my head. Police took me to hospital in the van. I’m good now, I’m okay.”

Judge Simon Medland QC said: “Both of you were drunk and launched a ferocious and sustained attack on that man who was doing no more than sitting in his sleeping bag. He was defenceless and vulnerable on an open street which was lit and where people could and did observe what occurred. He did nothing to deserve what was done to him.”
