A HIGH school that traditionally holds a hectic charity day that raises thousands of pounds to split between good causes is switching this year to holding a charity drive.

Covid-19 means the usual sports hall full of stalls run by Haslingden High School students cannot happen but staff and students will still be doing their bit.

Assistant headteacher Elaine Edyvean said: “Some of our families are very familiar with our annual charity day - the pleas from children for fruit, sweets, a jar, some chocolate, a football table, a TV.

“Sadly, once again, we won’t be holding Charity Day this year. Instead, we are aiming to hold a five-week ‘Charity Drive’ to take place this term.”

Students and staff are being asked to bring in items requested by one of five charities that are popular with the students each year. Items will be collected for: Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue; three charities helping the homeless; Emmeline’s Pantry and Rossendale Hospice.
