A teenager is due to appear at the magistrates court on Tuesday charged with burglary.

On Monday morning, police in Rossendale were called to Edenfield after receiving reports of a burglary at a house.

An investigation was launched and enquires carried out at the scene which enabled officers to arrest a man not long after.

Evan Smethurst, 19, of Exchange Street, Edenfield was charged with the burglary, had bail refused and was remanded into custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We took report of a dwelling burglary committed in Edenfield in the early hours of yesterday (Monday) morning.

"As a result of enquiries made at the scene a local man was quickly arrested.

"We can now confirm that Evan Smethurst 19-years-old of Exchange Street, Edenfield has now been charged with the burglary offence, his bail has been refused and he will appear at Blackburn Magistrates Court this morning."
