What scheme will the Government come up with next I ask myself.?

The latest bright idea is for every household in the country to be forced to have seven dustbins - yes you read it correctly seven dustbins. This follows a national overhaul of waste collections.

At present refuse removal rules are set by local councils but plans to nationalise collections are part of an Environment Bill currently going through Parliament.

The new scheme would mean four separate bins for each “dry, recyclable” - glass, metal, plastic and paper and card. Three more bins would cover garden waste, food and non- recyclables.

The bill has yet to reach its final stages but the Government is hoping the scheme will be rolled out and up and running before 2023/2024.

The District Councils Network which currently covers 183 authorities in England claims that the change would be “chaotic” and would cost £680million a year to overhaul fleets and depots.

Where in heavens name are people expected to store all these bins I wonder?

Not everyone has room. And what about people living in flats? What are they supposed to do?

Another thought I had was maybe it will be reflected in the amount of council tax we pay by being shown as a discount but on reflection I don’t think so as councils don’t work that way do they.
