A COUPLE of weeks ago in our ‘Way We Were’ feature we printed a photograph of Blackburn Boulevard.

The caption on the back of the picture showing trams and charabancs in the town centre stated that it had been taken in 1930.

But reader Duncan Holden, who has a keen interest in trams and buses in days gone by got in touch to say that this date was incorrect.

Duncan said: “The photo of the Boulevard was taken in 1928. It is one of a set of 11 photographs all taken on the same day, seven from the railway station turntable (including the one published), two from a top floor window of the Adelphi and two from a window in the railway station.

They were taken, by the Transport Department, deliberately from a high vantage point so that they could highlight movement of vehicles on the Boulevard prior to introduction of Corporation buses, which happened in November 1929. Hence why there are no Corporation buses in the photo!

We are indebted to Duncan for getting in touch and adding some fascinating information to this fascinating photo.
