The police have increased the number of officers patrolling in hotspot areas in response to a surge in knife crime.

Preston police say there are ongoing issues with knife crime across the county however between June 9 and 13 there will be specific disruption tasking and hotspot policing in and around the city under Operation Edge.

By targeting key and current problems highlighted by response policing, risk and threat, Operation Edge and will include the targeting of well-known nominals over the next few days.

Sgt Miller from Preston police said: "Officers were out in force on Thursday night tackling knife crime through stop and search of which 35 searches were carried out.

"One male who was wanted by our oppos in Merseyside for perverting the course of justice.

"One arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.

"Another male was arrested for obstructing a search and police assault.

"We also recovered, whilst acting on information from the public, the weapons on the picture.

"One less knife on the street is potentially one less serious or fatal assault prevented."
