A BLACKBURN donut shop is preparing a range of activities and special offers for children to coincide with half-term and National Donut Day.

DIPZ donut shop, based on Plane Street and Bruce Business Park, hopes to give youngsters in the town something to do after having been stuck inside for so long during lockdown and to help teach them baking skills.

Proprietor Yusuf Lambat, who also runs Melt Lab in Unit 5 on Bruce Street Business Park which creates products for his shop, said that his business is unique in the region, being the only donut shop in Lancashire to employ the traditional American style.

He said: "We do our own artisan donuts, we're the only place in Lancashire that does our own donuts that way.

"We make our own donuts the American way."

He added: "Obviously we've seen a big increase in people interested in baking over lockdown and this is a great way of getting kids out and about and getting them into baking."

The baking activities will take place at the Melt Lab facility on Thursday June 3.

Children who attend will get the the chance to learn how to make their very own donuts.

Mr Lambat said: "People can come and book in, we'll show people in and then we'll shown them what to do!"

This will then be followed up with games, special offers and other activities including the chance to take selfies with the 'Donut Lord' at DIPZ Donuts on Plane Street the next day, Friday June 4 which coincides with national donut day.

The events will also be a great boost to DIPZ Donuts and Melt Lab which, like many businesses had seen their activities severely limited by lockdown recently.

Mr Lambat opened DIPZ in January 2020 just before the pandemic hit and as a result spent much of the following year operating takeaway only services.

However, with restrictions easing this is now the perfect way to reacquaint the local community with the business.

Mr Lambat said: "It's a great way of getting kids engaged and also its in their minds then so in future they'll be back."

National Donut Day will be followed up by National Donut Week which runs from June 10 to June 18 and was established by the Children's Trust and involves cafes, shops and bakeries all over the country.

Mr Lambat hopes his events will give young people all the skills they need to take part.

Anyone interested can arrive at the Melt Lab facility, Unit 5, Bruce Business Park in time for three sessions at 10.30am to 11.30am, 11.30am to 12.30pm and 12.30pm to 1.30pm on Thursday June 3.

Friday's activities will take place at DIPZ Donut Shop on Plane Street, Blackburn.
